Default Meta NOODP

Google now recognizes a new META.

META NOODP tells Google to use a snippet from your page instead of the title & description in DMOZ.

Here is the correct way to use it:

<META NAME="ROBOTS" CONTENT="NOODP">

Default does it work?

Jim, have you or anyone else tried this and verified that it works? If so, how long did it take Google to make the change in the live SERPS?

Default Meta NOODP

I have not tried it yet. Even though my sites are listed in DMOZ, none of them are showing in Google with the ODP title & description.

Matt says that when he added the NO ODP tag it took three days for the title & description to change.

So, the apparent answer is that it does work.

I see my ODP title most often when searching for my name. I added the NOODP tag this morning. Let's see how long the change takes.

MSN actually lead the way on this one. I blogged about MSN allowing webmasters to remove ODP info back in June, and then Google started in July. Thought it was funny that Google was behind MSN on this one.

NOODP update: I added the NOODP tag on 8/19/06 to one of my sites and as of the 8/27/06 cache date Google still had not stopped using the DMOZ tiltle and description for some search queries. As a test i thought I would re-insert the tag using caps instead of lower case for NOODP.

We shall see...

Confirmed! As of 9/4/04 Cache the ODP title & description is gone.

It appears from this test that the tag is case sensitive.
