Default You've Been Banned

Sorry for the alarming title. Did it get your attention?

A couple of agents have contacted me recently about their homepage taking a dive in MSN. The symptoms seem to be the same. The homepage used to rank well and now it's either gone or suffering terribly in the SERPS. I brought this up at the SES Conference and posted a cure on our blog. Click here for more.

Simple solution

http://search.msn.co.in/docs/submit.aspx

go there resubmit your site and see it magically appear back in SERPs but as Jim said clean up your site too.

Jim,

Somehow I missed that post on the blog - does make one think more about the structure of a page title, as well as the homepage title.

Could you explain a little more about the scoring as you mentioned a score of 255(?)?

Thanks

Glenn,

255 is, or at least was, the maximum score a page could receive. If a page hit that score the entire site would get banned. I was told that a site could only be re-included upon a manual review. Before hitting 255 a site could increase its rankings by adjusting the on page factors.

So in 2006 it would take only page to score 255 and the entire site would be banned! There could be devistating to a site, if the web site owner was not aware that one page was scored that high.

Glenn,

If a webmaster had a page that scored 255 I'd be willing to bet he/she knew they were doing something wrong...

Has anything new happened on this angle since Bing opened up. i am just curious I have not spent a ton of time learning the specifics of each search engine. I just mainly put up content and try to build relationships. Although I seem to be rather poor at the second one.
