Charles have you followed up with any of those bloggers to see if their PR came back or more important if their rankings ended up being effected.

Most say that their traffic hasn't been effected too much, but I think that's due to the source of hits. Most weren't getting traffic from G anyway, it was coming from social sites for the most part. Page rank is still gone for everyone that I've checked. Some have started new sites, others have just said so what.

Page rank may not as important as it used to be, but it can impact the SERP's if there are pages with similar information (not duplicate info) as to which page appears higher.

Hi Glenn, a PR penalty's ultimate penalty is your inner pages not getting recognized and dying in the (I know every one will yell it does not exist) Google supplemental hell and not showing up in any major keywords with adwords advertisement on it. That is what PR is for.

Mert - I will not yell that there is no Google supplemental index. They just don't show the pages as supplemental or in the main index(?).
Are you saying that if there are no adwords on the search results that the results are supplemental pages? You got me somewhat confused. |

Google uses its sandbox filter using a supply and demand formula. If there are more adwords advertisement in search results, the supplemental results seems to show up a lot less in those search results (unless your domain authority is pretty high).
That seems to be the only remaining importance of page rank. That is why pages like trulia rank for even small town usa real estate keywords even though the page that shows up could be three links away from the home page with minimal links pointing to it. Of course there are small differences between PR and trust rank but that is a whole new book to tell. To keep it short in my experience high pr does not mean high trust rank, where a high pr can help you with ranking only for title tag keywords but high trust rank gets you ranked for almost anything on the content for long tail or less competitive keywords |
