Hi guys, I wanted to create a quality quideline list for directories. I would love to hear your input on the issue and may be expand the criterias mentioned in the post a little bit.
Here is my short list 1- No reciprocal requirements, 2- Existence of authority sites already present 3- No empty category pages 4- Original coding and content of the directory. 5- No generic search terms. Is there any more to this list you would like to add??

Might be a little too basic - but how about the directory being indexed? Don't flame me on that one.
What about coding of the link to our sites? I know that certain links are done thru some coding that will not help our sites, just not sure of the coding. I am not referring to nofollow's.

The true issue is to define which site is a true directory (done for the sake of being an authority directory and which one is an SEO directory (done solely for SEO purposes). Even as basic as they are, what you say does perfect sense buddy.

Yahoo.com, is 299 bucks a year, business.com 199 a year and paid and supposedly good. Google rules not mine.

Where did you get those numbers from?
The Yahoo Directory is $299.00 per year and a listing in Business.com is $199.00 per year ($149.00 for renewals).
