I would also have to add that mythical quality that attracts actual visitors. Can't say what it is exactly, but some directories have it, others don't. I'll also add the directory structure in relation to users being able to find things. I like directories that have their own internal search function that works well.

In my earlier quote from Matt Cutts I did forgot to add that the diretories should be human edited and not one that just automatically adds the site.

That is definitely a must. Otherwise, its just an FFA site. I keep wondering when they are going to tag social networking sites as such.

Could there be a day that sites in the myspace realm would be considered bad neighborhoods? I heard some interesting stats today regarding a certain type of myspace participant which could possibly facilitate such a penalty

Myspace pages clearly have some link bait potential.

The owner of #1 site in Chicago real estate keyword uses music video streaming to myspace type pages and blogs of 10s of thousands of people (along with links to his sites) to get to that position. You can see his websites (same design) #4 in Nashville #1 in Minneapolis. He also has new sites started at Portland San Antonio and Houston. Google clearly does not care as he did not get big enough. So all I can say is until you are a huge network Google won't say a word to a little myspace spam.

Just because it has worked for some time doesn't mean that it will continue to work and/or never get you a penalty. Look at everyone that got penalized for using state pages. Most thought that would never get them in trouble and ended up with zero rankings for at least 30 days.

P.S. I never said it was the right thing to do or that there is no chance you wont get caught but hey I am sure a lot of people reported him so far and still nada.

LOL...it has been really busy. To add to everything we are running into all sorts of issues in the lending industry that are messing up deals. We end up having to do double work to get the deals closed.

I know you aren't saying to use Myspace spam, but just wanted to make sure everyone else understood.
