Properly written 301s have no ill effect.

I continue to suggest to Agents that they do not use 301 or 302s to their main websites. if they have a second site that does not enjoy top placements then use them there. As often as Google has changed their rules and the potential for issues outway the benefits.

glad to hear that 301s don't have some of the same issues in the past.

I think I will stick with the consertive side...
