For years, Google’s link: command has deliberately failed to show all the links to a website. This came out of Google’s fear that site owners simply wanted the data to try and manipulate rankings — which was pretty true. Instead, they only provided a sampling of backlinks. Today, that changes…

From the beginning to Web 2.0
This video titled, “Web 2.0 … The Machine is Us/ing Us” was created by Michael Wesch, an Assistant Professor of Cultural Anthropology at Kansas State University. I found it enjoyable and thought it was worth sharing. It’s 5 minutes long, but worth it. Have fun. Read the rest …

I am used to the usual spam emails from all the little companies and illegitimate outfits. But, last night was the first time I’d ever received a spam email from Apple. Wonder who sold them my email address?
On the heels on Microsoft’s new Vista system, Apple sent their sales message that if I’m going to upgrade to Vista, I’ll likely need a new computer. So… why not just go ahead and get a Mac? It’s interesting that I have been considering a Mac purchase lately. But, in any case, this is spam email no matter how you cut it.
But… spam or not, it’s nice to see how aggressive Apple has been lately with their marketing campaign. The “PC vs Mac” ads seem to be everywhere I turn - they are on TV and on some of my favorite websites. And now their latest - and my least favorite - the email spam campaign. So, it would appear that this is going to be the year of the Mac war on PCs.
Just curious… did anyone else receive these emails? Read the rest …

When you think of people surfing the net, what group comes to mind?
Typically, we think of the younger crowd that passes their time on the web. Whether it’s doing research, shopping, or social networking, we have certainly changed how we live and work with the resources available on the Internet.
Even with the “dot com” bust, the Internet has and will continue to make millions for savvy business folks.
I can remember about 5 years ago when a top-producing RE/MAX agent balked at Jim for “wasting his time on that Internet thang because it’s just a fad!” (I’ll spare her the embarrassment by not mentioning her name here.)
But… the Internet is not just for the younger or working generation anymore.
If you think that older adults and retirees aren’t yet savvy to the Internet, think again. Grandma’s not just planting flowers and walking the mall anymore. Read the rest …

Today, I attended a free seminar hosted by Wealth Intelligence Academy on how to make money investing in real estate. They call their program Focus on Foreclosure.
With reports of foreclosures on the rise and no doubt more to come, this is a hot topic! The inflated home prices we saw in 2005 combined with risky interest-only loans and ARMs are sure to set more and more homeowners into desperate financial situations.
So… that means more opportunity for real estate investors.
As a REALTOR, knowing more about real estate investing and foreclosures will help you procure more real estate deals. And you could also do a little investing yourself.
I thought the Focus on Foreclosure trainer did a nice job of outlining the basics of investing. I have prepared my own outline recap from the notes I took at the seminar: Read the rest …

Since we each have a fixed amount of time in a given day/week/month/lifetime, we all probably (I know I do!) want to spend it wisely. As such, when we are online we tend to spend more time on sites that are worthy of our attention. After all, who wants to waste time? So, the big question is, where DO we spend all our time online?

Sure, there would be cultural problems, integration challenges, and many people who’d likely walk. But at the end of the day, Microsoft would end up with a much larger set of online services, a better advertising network, and people who know how to build, brand, and market web stuff that people actually use.
Yahoo would suddenly be part of an organization with an even more diversified revenue stream (it’s improved a lot since the Tim Koogle days, of course), very deep pockets, and some serious bargaining power.

Snap’s preview anywhere gizmo is ruining the reading experience for millions of people. Its intrusive, obstructive and unuseful in almost every respect and use case. The fact that so many big blogs are using it, big well respected blogs, does not mean that it’s useful, it just means that they, like most bloggers, have all the self restraint of a magpie in a sparkly things factory.
