Question No#5 Eric Ward’s answer about the lakehouse.com website. Give me a break. Did he even look at the website?

    Mert,

Eric said: “For example, this site http://www.lakehouse.com/ which focuses on lake property will attract links that this site http://www.century21thewrightchoice.net/ never could. Have a look.”

His statement is totally accurate and I am in 100% agreement with him.

In fact, the lake house site has done a nice job of collecting links relating to lakefront property. 8180 external links showing in Yahoo!, and most of them relating to her niche. That’s one of the reasons the site ranks like crazy for its targeted keywords.

Keep in mind that question had nothing to do with design.

I took a look at it and realized that it is mainly home page links from advertisers to this site which gives me the conclusion that the advertisers are either really really proud to be on this network or they are getting a good discount for giving a home page link to be advertised on here. In this case it really seems not like an attraction of link but rather forcing of a link through monetary value (I guess we are saying the same thing but this is simply paid for links not link baiting).

There was almost too much information in the post to absorb with one reading.

I tend to think that the more focused the site the more natural links are attracted to it.

As I looked over the site, I noticed that there is a link exchange offered - I truly wonder if some agents put a link on the homepage and don’t check back to see where their link is.

I think alot of agents add links to their site and then forget about them, with the whole attitude of fish in a barrel. So many agents never go back and check to see if their links are still being reciprocated, or worse, if the sites they are linking to are still pulling up the same info that they once were. I can’t tell you how many agents I have come across who have links to inappropriate content on their websites because they never went back and checked to see if the sites are still what they claim to be.

That’s a good point Gary. I think that the manual process oftentimes leaves you open to these types of issues because, simply put, it’s a time consuming task. One would hope that there would be an automated method to accomplish this, but I’ve found out through experience that automated link checkers can cause heartache all their own.

Very true Darin. They can be more trouble than they are worth *sometimes*. Getting a home page link back for a someplace on their site is definitely a one sided deal. Its interesting reading the different strategies and ideas. Now to incorporate them all into my own…
