Am I Just Too Good for You, or What?
Some days in this real estate business, you just want to laugh at how silly buyers and sellers can be. Other days, you need a good cry and a six-pack.
My day started out on fire. I was on my way to meet with a ready, willing, and able buyer. And isn’t that what we are ALL looking for in this current market?!
Like many of our clients, this buyer had found our website on the Internet and contacted me. I’d spent the prior couple days talking with this gal and narrowing down the right homes for her. And, of course, I confirmed the appointment with her last night and set up the showings for each property.
Then, when I turned my cell phone on this morning at 7AM, I had a voice mail from her saying she had to cancel because her parents said she shouldn’t work with a REALTOR that she found on the Internet. Ok, fine! Show me the Kleenex. I had worked this hard for nothing?
I guess I’ve been spoiled because this was my first “fickle” client. Everyone I’d worked with in the past just loved working with me and found our website to be an incredibly helpful tool.
What legitimate business can you NOT find on the Internet these days? Every successful (or up-and-coming) REALTOR knows the value of a good website and the lead traffic it can generate.
It’s true there are psychos on the Internet, but no more than are on the phone, or in the local mall, or sending some “great” offer in the mail. I’m guessing her parents live in a bubble and just remembered some story from 10 years ago about some rapist from an online dating chat room. Clearly, it has nothing to do with finding a buiness on the Internet and then contacting that business for more information.
I was then reminded by a colleague that real estate is no different than any other business. You can’t expect everyone in the world to buy your product or use your service. Some people are just weird. Every businessperson with experience will tell you stories about people they worked with diligently that just up and left or went to a competitor for no apparent reason.
So…that’s just life. You can’t win them all. Oops, just a second, my phone is ringing…
Ok, I’m back. That was someone who wants me to list and sell two of his properties. He says his current agent has failed to generate any activity, and so he’s been doing some research and thinks I am the right agent for the job.
Why? Because he found me on the Internet.
