Remembering 9/11

As we remember this day in history, September 11, 2001 will always be remembered with sadness as we suffered devastating terrorist attacks on our great nation. Our prayers go out to the families of all who were killed or injured during these senseless attacks.

Jim and I had the pleasure of listening to the story of one of the survivors of the Pentagon attack at our church service yesterday. Retired Lt. Col. Brian Birdwell and his wife, Mel, spoke about his amazing rescue and recovery after suffering severe burns following the plane crash. His story is truly inspiring, not just for those who were directly affected by the 9/11 attacks, but also for anyone who is experiencing suffering in their lives. We would encourage everyone to read the Birdwell’s book – more info can be found on their website at www.facethefire.org. Face The Fire organization has a special focus for encouraging and helping other burn survivors and their families.

Before the sun sets today, please take a moment to remember those, like the Birdwells, who faced catastrophe from the 9/11 attacks, yet through it all discovered triumph and a deeper faith. It is stories like this that show our enemies (such as the cowards from 9/11) that we are a resilient people and that we can and will always triumph over tragedy.
